WordPress

I’ve just finished (I hope) mirating the blog from s9y to WordPress.
It took me a bit of time to edit some of the posts due to s9y’s weird way of outputting the RSS feed, and I also had to trawl through my old database to get some of the mood information, but other than that it works reasonably smoothly.
I especially like the “Find Me On” widget on the sidebar for all my social networking icons
Oh, I installed WPTouch as well so anyone viewing from an iPhone or Android device should see a native interface.
I’ve also got a cold, which is a bit annoying as its lovely weather out, and I’m off work

New Laptop Incoming
May 24th
So, it’s been about 3 years since my last laptop build, my Mitac 8207D. I’m going to give that to my parents to place the aging Acer which actually has had a broken hinge for a while.
I’ve just purchased one of these, which looks like a prime candidate for hacking Snow Leopard, dual booting with Windows 7.
Will post more when it arrives!

Media Center, Media Browser, TunerFree MCE….
May 4th
I’ve been meaning to do this for a while, but never got around to it. I’ve posted some new Photos/Screenshots and a Video of my Media Center PC, just to show the progress I’ve made with it.
The Media Center PC was upgraded a few months ago – it’s now a Pentium Dual Core E5200 with 2GB Ram, and a Radeon HD2400 Fanless which makes it pretty quiet. Its connected via some Homeplug AV equipment to my QNap NAS which is upstairs. This setup works well, and I get 80-100Mbps from it, more than enough for steaming my HD content.
You can view some pictures here.
Sorry for the low quality of the video – the camera I used is only a cheap one I got at a bargain price from work.

Acer Aspire 3023 & Windows 7
Apr 29th
I finally decided to upgrade my old Acer laptop that my parents use to Windows 7 today. All was well until I tried to connect to my WiFi – Windows couldn’t see any networks. It turns out that I needed to install the Acer Launch Manager in order for the wireless switch on the front of the unit.
Unfortunately, Acer’s website doesn’t have a compatible Launch Manager for my model, it only supports XP. I tried the XP one, but no luck. I also found links to Versions 2 and 3 of the app, but although they installed and worked with the function buttons on the keyboard, the wireless switch still didn’t respond.
Then, I found this post on searbe.co.uk. It turns out that there are Vista drivers for this model on Acer’s FTP server. I downloaded the Launch Manager, rebooted, and success!
Hopefully this will be useful to some other people who might stumble across this page from a google search.

Moved hosting..
Feb 14th
After a few years of being with an american company, powweb, I was starting to get a bit frustrated by a few things. Firstly, the speed of the site and especially any database access had been gradually slowing down over the last few years. Secondly, they were very slow to respond to new software releases and update their servers (When I left they were still using PHP 5.2.3).
So, I contacted my good friend Craig at Veloxserv, and moved my site to its new home. Everything went without a hitch, and I would definately recommend them to anyone.
Happy now, Craig?
I’ve also just setup a twitter plugin for the blog, which automagically tweets when I post a new entry. Pretty cool stuff!

PC World.. Megastore?

Hey all,
We’re currently in the middle of our Refit at work, for our new Winning New Revenues store. Its shaping up pretty well, although the Tech Guys area could be a little bigger, and we have no stools! Still, have to make do with what you’ve got I guess.
In other news, I also made a new website and forum for my WoW guild, using phpBB3 and the Wowhead Tooltips mod. You can find the site here. The top image on the news page has pics of some of the guild officers on it. I must remember to update it as people get new gear!

British Grand Prix 2009
Jun 26th
Greetings,
So it was Silverstone last weekend. I once again attended all 3 days, and had lots of (very exhausting) fun, and took quite a lot of photos. Shame Jenson couldn’t win on home soil, but there’s always next year (wherever it ends up being hosted!). Attended with my Dad on the Friday, and Chris from work on Sat/Sun.
A few days before, I figured I’d pop into town and see if I could get a GPS tagger for my photos. I had a look on Maplins website and they had one for £49.99, so I went in there and lo and behold, they had the model below on clearance for only £19.98
The only difference I can see is that the old one only holds 16,000 GPS coordinates as opposed to 65,000 on the new one. Well, for me thats plenty.
So, I purchased it (it turns out to be an i-gotu GT-100) and used it over the weekend – just turned it on in the morning, let it run all day and then used this lightroom plugin to tag all the pictures. The grandstands caused a bit of a problem with the location but overall I can’t complain too much. Click to be taken to the gallery.
I’m having a few issues with the Google Maps gallery2 plugin picking up the GPS data in some of the EXIF tags, but a few of them show up on the map – I’ll figure it out eventually. I’ve also been playing about with Lightroom a little bit – doing some cropping and colour adjustments.
Also I got Chris to take a new photo of me:
I quite like it, although I still think I prefer the one that was taken back in 2006(7?) that I still use as my twitter/facebook pic.
Well, thats enough ramblings for today! Unless I suddenly get inspired by something later!
Tata.
